Question 1
Under current Oklahoma law, students in grades 6–12 who assault a school employee or volunteer shall be suspended out of school.
House Bill 3885 establishes specific suspension requirements for students in grades 3–5 who assault or attempt to cause bodily injury to a school employee or volunteer, while allowing the district’s superintendent to modify the suspension term on a case-by-case basis. Under the bill, the suspension standards would be:
- 3 days in-school suspension for a first offense
- 7 days out-of-school suspension for a second offense
- Expulsion for a third offense
